who is DougieDougie Moffat aged 37 used to be a very keen climber and regular at alien rock from the very early days of our existence. When Dougie wasn't climbing he was biking on any bike he could get his hands on. Such was his interest in bikes that he went on to become a manager at the Edinburgh Bike Co 0p. He was also a regular competitor on the competitive downhill racing circuit. Unfortunately Dougie suffered a massive stroke in April 2008 and after a year in hospital has been on an understandably slow recuperation ever since. why a bikeFrom August 2009 Dougie has been able to get out with assistance from another person on a borrowed sit up and beg 2 man trike as in the picture above. The trike is very heavy and can only be transported by trailer. It also requires a fit volunteer to help with the pedalling. So far trips on this bike have been limited to Dalkeith country park. If we were able to get Dougie a fold up recumbent similar to the one pictured above. It would enable Dougie's not so young parents to transport it in their car. More importantly it would enable Dougie to be in control of a bike on his own, increasing his self esteem and greatly aiding his recuperation both in fitness and motor skills. the appeal
We managed to raise over £3800.Thank you to everyone who donated, Dougie is over the moon and is now looking for the best bike he can get for his condition, Updates on the fundraising are at the Dougie Appeal Blog. | ||
